?Logic and Formal Ontology: Is the Final Formal Ontology Possible

Musa Akrami AbstractMany philosophers and logicians have contemplated the relationship between ontology and logic. The author of this paper, working within a Bolzanoan-Husserlian tradition of studying both ontology and logic, considers ontology as the science of the most general features of beings and the most general relations among them. He considers logic as the science concernin...

Ontology adaptation upon updates

Ontologies, like any other model, change over time due to modifications in the modeled domain, deeper understanding of the domain by the modeler, error corrections, simple refactoring or shift of modeling granularity level. Local changes usually impact the remainder of the ontology as well as any other data and metadata defined over it. The massive size of ontologies and their possible fast upd...

Toward a Formal Common Information Model Ontology

Self-managing systems will be highly dependent upon information acquired from disparate applications, devices, components and subsystems. To be effectively managed, such information will need to conform to a common model. One standard that provides a common model for describing disparate computer and network information is the Common Information Model (CIM). Although CIM defines the models nece...

Formal Model for Ontology Mapping Creation

In a semantic environment data is described by ontologies and heterogeneity problems have to be solved at the ontological level. This means that alignments between ontologies have to be created, most probably during design-time, and used in various run-time processes. Such alignments describe a set of mappings between the source and target ontologies, where the mappings show how instance data f...

A formal model of the Semantic Web Service Ontology (WSMO)

Semantic Web Service, one of the most significant research areas within the Semantic Web vision, has attracted increasing attention from both the research community and industry. The Web Service Modelling Ontology (WSMO) has been proposed as an enabling framework for the total/partial automation of the tasks (e.g., discovery, selection, composition, mediation, execution, monitoring and etc.) in...
